Guiding Light Doula Services

Birth & Postpartum Doula Support

What is a Doula?

A doula is a dedicated birth professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

I do not replace your medical team—I work alongside them to ensure you feel informed, supported, and confident in your care. My role is to help you understand your options, communicate your needs clearly, and advocate for yourself with strength and clarity.

This is intentional, patient-centered support that honors your body, your voice, and your full experience at every stage of the journey.

How I Support You

You are not meant to go through birth alone—in body or spirit. I support you in ways that are both practical and steady:

  • Helping you understand your options and advocate for yourself

  • Creating a clear, informed birth plan

  • Providing physical comfort and grounded support during labor

  • Holding space for your emotions, fears, and decision-making

  • Supporting your transition into postpartum with care for your body and recovery

Why Work with Me

Birth has always been a sacred event. Long before hospitals and policies, women were supported by other women—midwives, birth workers, and spiritual keepers of the womb.
I carry that lineage forward today, not as a trend, but as a calling.

As your doula, I walk beside you through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, offering practical, evidence-based care grounded in ancestral wisdom and informed by modern knowledge. I help you understand what’s happening in your body as labor unfolds, speak up for your needs, and stay supported with steady, hands-on care throughout your birth.

This is care that sees you fully—body, mind, and spirit.

Preparation Matters

How you prepare directly shapes your birth and postpartum experience.

A Guide for the Journey Through Birth and Beyond supports the full transition—from emotional preparation and understanding labor to informed decision-making, postpartum healing, and the first weeks of newborn care.

You can purchase the guide separately, and it is included with every birth-support package.

Private birth education is also available and shaped around your specific needs and questions. All education is grounded in current research and supported by my Evidence-Based Birth® training.

Private Birth Preparation Session

Private birth education is available for families who want personalized preparation without full doula support.

A private, two-hour educational session created around your needs, questions, and concerns as you prepare for birth and postpartum.

Instead of a one-size-fits-all class, we will focus on the areas most relevant to you. Your partner or chosen support person is encouraged to attend so that you can prepare together.

Education is grounded in current research and supported by my training with Evidence-Based Birth®.

Your session includes a copy of A Guide for the Journey Through Birth and Beyond.

Postpartum Care

After the Birth:

The Mother’s Care Truly Begins

Postpartum Support

Support does not end once the baby is born.

I offer postpartum care centered on the mother—her recovery, her body, and her transition after birth. Through structured, in-home support, grounding care, and steady guidance, you are supported without feeling overwhelmed.

This is intentional, slower care. Space for you to rest, recover, and be cared for as you heal.

The Truth About Postpartum

The postpartum period is one of the most demanding transitions a woman will experience—yet it is often overlooked.

Your body is healing. Your emotions are shifting. You are learning to care for a new life while still needing care yourself.

This work brings the focus back to you.

Restored in Care

Restored in Care offers structured postpartum support focused on the mother’s recovery, grounding, and transition after birth. This work is grounded in African American postpartum care traditions and the understanding that the mother also needs to be mothered.

Care is hands-on and practical. Prepared teas, herbal baths, postpartum oils, gentle massage, and other body-based practices are used to help you feel grounded, supported, and reconnected with yourself.

Womb-centered care and African American postpartum belly binding may be incorporated when desired and appropriate. Mothers who choose belly binding receive a custom African-print wrap for continued use.

Rest, nourishment, guidance through postpartum changes, and light non-medical newborn support are central to this care. Each visit creates room for you to sleep, eat, shower, receive support, and settle into recovery without carrying everything alone. The practices used during each visit are selected according to your recovery, comfort, and needs.

A complimentary consultation allows us to discuss your needs, available support, and the care schedule that will work best.
